Brief Description:
"Chimariko was spoken in a small territory along the Trinity River and its tributaries in the mountainous interior of northwestern California. it is an isolate, but has been grouped in the controversial Hokan stock. At the time of contact many Chimarikos were bilingual in Hupa, the adjoining Athabaskan language, and most Chimariko survivors joined the Hupas. The language was extensively documented by Harrington in the 1920s, who worked with the last fluent speakers. None of his material has been published, although some earlier, less accurate materiel has. The last speaker died around 1950." Victor Golla, Atlas of the World's Languages 2007 pg. 12
