Brief Description:
"Island Chumash (Isleño) was the Chumash language originally spoken on three islands in the Santa Barbara Channel - San Miguel, Santa Rosa, and Santa Cruz - but with the establishment of the Spanish missions, the Island communities were relocated on the mainland, primarily at San Buenaventura. It was quite distinct from the Chumash languages of the adjacent mainland, Barbareño and Ventureño." Victor Golla, Atlas of the World's Languages 2007 pg. 16
