Brief Description:
Niuatoputapu was spoken on the island of the same name and the neighboring island of Tafahi, which are located in the north of Tonga, near the border with Sāmoa. The language was more closely related to Samoan than Tongan, though the inhabitants speak Tongan today. There are word lists collected by Jacob LeMaire in the early 17th century. Until c 1800 AD.
