Brief Description: Old Nubian was the principal language of the Sudan and the southern part of Egypt during the Middle Ages. Old Nubian is written in a modified form of the Greek uncial alphabet, with extra characters taken from Coptic and Meroitic. Approximately half the material in the language is composed of Christian religious texts such as the Septuagint and the Greek New Testament. It is the direct ancestor of modern Nubian. 8th - 15th centuries AD.
