Brief Description:
An ancient language of East-central Italy. Italic, and perhaps related to Oscan. It was the language of the Paeligni, who first opposed Rome in the Second Samnite War, and then joined Rome after the Samnites were defeated in 304 BC. They lived in part of what is now the Abruzzi. Very few inscriptions exist, all from the 1st century BC.
