Brief Description:
An extinct language of Southern Russia, spoken by a nomadic people who lived in the steppes of Eastern Europe, north of the Black Sea. It was similar to today's Crimean Tatar language. It is documented in several medieval works, including the Codex Cumanicus. Its last stronghold was the region of Cumania in Hungary. 11th-17th centuries AD.
