The center of Sogdian was in Sogdiana, whose capital was Samarkand in modern Uzbekistan; but since this was such an important point on the Silk Road, it became a widely used trade language, the result of Sogdian merchant colonies establish as far east as Chinese Turkestan. 100 BC - 1000 AD.
