Brief Description:
"Thompson is an Interior Salish language spoken along the Fraser River Canyon in southwest British Columbia and along the adjacent Thompson and Nicola Rivers. A shallow dialect distinction exists between Upper Thompson varieties in the northern part of Thompson territory and Lower Thompson varieties in the south. The principal modern settlements are at Lytton on the Fraser River and at Lower Nicola and Merritt in Nicola Valley. There are about 150 first-language speakers in a total population of over 5,000."
