Brief Description:
Manichaean Middle Persian is a variant of Middle Persian, written in a Syriac form of the Aramaic script, which was the cult language of Manichaeism, the dualist, syncretistic religion founded by the Babylonian-born Prophet Mani (215-276 AD). The language provides an excellent idea of what spoken Middle Persian was like, for, unlike Pehlevi, it does not contain numerous borrowings from other Iranian dialects. c. 300-600 AD.
