Brief Description: An ancient language of northern Italy. It has one of the largest collections of inscriptions in a language of pre-Roman Italy, though they are usually short and contain very few words. The inscriptions (of which there are over 250) are usually written in a North Etruscan alphabet. The language is probably an independent western Indo-European language, unrelated to either Italic or Celtic. The main centers of the Veneti were at modern Este, Padua and Vicenza. 5th BC - 1st century BC.
